The last fatal glance between Orpheus and Eurydice

The last fatal glance between Orpheus and Eurydice

Orpheus, the most famous singer and lyre player, loses his beloved Eurydice, bitten by a snake. Refusing to accept death, he descends into the Underworld and with his song moves the gods, who allow him to bring her back to life on one condition: not to look back until they have both reached the light. On the verge of emerging, overcome by doubt or love, Orpheus turns around. He sees her for an instant, then she vanishes forever. Ever since, the question that haunts those who hear the myth is: why does he turn? Out of weakness, fear, or too much passion? Orpheus embodies poetry that conquers death but succumbs to human fragility, teaching us that the greatest love is sometimes precisely the one that cannot obey.
