Stranded on Naxos
A thread to defeat the Minotaur, a promise of eternal love. Ariadne betrays her homeland for Theseus, the hero who in return abandons her, asleep on the island of Naxos. From this cruel gesture comes an Italian saying that has traversed the millennia, evolving from piantare in Nasso (literally "to leave someone in Naxos") to piantare in asso – the way Italians still describe a sudden betrayal. But for the Cretan princess, this was not the end. On the island, the god Dionysus found her, fell in love with her, and made her his immortal wife. A story of abandonment and rebirth hidden in the words we use every day.
