Danaë and the rain that changed destiny
To escape a prophecy that he would be killed by his grandson, King Acrisius locks his daughter Danaë in a bronze prison. Zeus, falling in love with her, reaches her by turning into golden rain and impregnates her. Perseus is born. Frightened, Acrisius abandons mother and child to the sea in a chest. They miraculously land on Seriphos, where Perseus grows up and, to protect Danaë from King Polydectes, beheads Medusa. Returning, he turns the tyrant to stone with the Gorgon's head. Yet fate still unfolds: during a contest, Perseus accidentally strikes Acrisius with a discus, killing him. Danaë, a symbol of waiting and strength, has inspired artists like Titian and Klimt for centuries.
