Lucusta — The poisoner of Rome

Lucusta — The poisoner of Rome

Lucusta, a professional poisoner, became the secret weapon of imperial power in Rome. It is said that on Agrippina's orders, she eliminated Emperor Claudius with a poisonous mushroom. Then, at Nero's command, she killed his rival Britannicus using an ingenious trick. Rewarded with lands, riches, and even a school of poisons, she lived with impunity for over a decade. But when Nero fell, Lucusta was also discarded. Dragged in chains through the streets of Rome, she suffered an atrocious death in the arena. Her story is that of one who becomes a deadly tool of power, only to be cast aside without mercy.
